Bird Story - December 2008

INTERIM - DEC - JAN

December 16th 2008 00:14

Just a message to let regular readers know that I have not vanished, died, given up writing/photographing the birds, etc - but that I simply need to take a 2-3 week breather to finish up some paid work & pay attention to a couple of chapters of a novel that I am writing.

I should be returned to regular posts & photos again in the first or second week of the new year.

Bulbuls in poinsettia

December 12th 2008 21:12
Here is a shot I took of a pair of red-whiskered bulbuls recently. They were in the poinsettia tree, taking a short rest, surveying the garden and observing the pigeons munching stale pizza on the lawn…

They were so engrossed in their pigeon entertainment, that I got several photos without their spotting me hiding behind the bedroom curtains poking a silver box at them!

I am so glad my camera has a 12 zoom!!

STORMS & MAGPIE VIDEOS

December 10th 2008 23:08
It seems that we have not had an entire week go by without some black clouds and rain, if not thunder as well, at least once in the 7 days for a couple of months. I took a couple of shots of our visiting pigeons flock perched rather soggily on the carport roof…

I also took 4 short videos of the baby magpie eating a chunk of cheese I tossed out to him. I only have dial-up, so loading them to u-tube takes ages - but I have managed to pop two up and will share them with you below:

1. Baby eats cheese - a bit comes off and Mother pie snatches it! Father pie is busy watching me to see if I have any more for him….

2. Baby chases father pie who swiped his bit of cheese as he was taking too long to consume it, while mother pie eats crumbs.

Big Birds

December 9th 2008 01:36
Recently, we have had the baby magpie and parents visit almost daily for cheese. I managed to get a couple of shots of one of the parents observing me, whilst the other fed the baby - which is quite capable of feeding itself, but…

Our path: 2

December 5th 2008 20:32
We recently had another pathful of pigeons. (Mr Scruff, Scrufflette, Scruff, Tarback on path and Black Scruff off path).

A little later on, only three were left stretching out in the heat wave… the rest had found cooler places to laze

Our path: 1

Our garden path is a popular sunbaking spot for pigeons and doves - as you can see by this cute pair of birds nodding off on the pathway recently.

A ROW OF BIRDS

December 1st 2008 14:44
I took a couple of shots of the pigeons - though, that is hardly news! I thought they looked so sweet lined up on the carport roof rim, I had to grab my camera…

In the first shot, Tarback is avoiding the camera, Scruff and Black Scruff are lazing together, and Speckley has his eyes on Scrufflette. In the second shot, only Scrufflette is avoiding the camera
