Bird Story - March 2009

Pigeonalia 6

March 31st 2009 00:18
Smokey and I had a nose to beak on the windowsill - precious moments! Smokey and I also poked our tongues out at each other and licked our lips/beaks. It is interesting how curious some of the brighter minded pigeons are with humanity.

However, many of the pigeons are getting nervous when flying in to feed at our place. Our next door neighbor is having an anti-pigeon phase again, and constantly banging an empty tub on her wall to frighten them away. This not only startles the feeding and contentedly resting birds, but me! It is not very easy to read a book, study a Buddhism class, or meditate, snooze, relax, or veg to music, with a loud rattling suddenly issuing out without warning.

It is causing the pigeons to become very nervous. They are being disturbed when they try to eat their meal. if they were human, they would have sever indigestion I am certain. I have been trying to get close to my pigeon friends, but they are being scared continuously by our neighboring human. Hopefully, she will calm down and stop her activities shortly , and the pigeons and I can get some peace once more.

Pigeonalia 5

March 27th 2009 14:07

I have not updated everyone about the musical preferences of the pigeons lately. Black Scruff appears to enjoy Sinister Dexter. Tarback adores Blair Hansen. Goldwing and Scruff enjoy Madelia.

We have a new pigeon as of a week or so ago, that looks almost identical to Brownie - who vanished without a trace over a year ago, presumably dead. The new one could very well be Brownie's rebirth, as it has the same semi-cautious attitude and a missing toenail. However, it does not appear to be entranced by Keith Varon, so I do not think it is the original Brownie flown home - perhaps a reincarnated Brownie, though.

After almost a month of not spotting Smokey, he flew into our yard along with Spotty yesterday! What a delight to see them again after such a time without. I am wondering if the 'new Brownie' might possibly be their offspring and the reason for their recent absence.

Awwww - no camera!

March 24th 2009 01:05

I am often encountering moments where I am out and about and meet up with a bird but am without a camera. The most recent of these times was when I was popping down to the local beach for half an hours relaxation whilst waiting for the shops to open.

On my return shopward, I spotted a spoonbill at close range in the golf club pond. If I had had my camera, I could have got some great pictures, as it was standing still and near enough to get up close via zoom.

Prior to the spoonbill, I spotted a male and female fairy wren flittering about the nearby bush. Once again, had I had my camera I could have tried to have got a few shots - although in this case they were scampering about quickly and not likely to be much more than a blur.

WHITE-FACED HERON

March 20th 2009 15:25
I have so many new heron pics to share, I thought I would stick some of them together! I came out of the study to wash up my coffee mug and spotted the white-faced heron striding across the lawn towards the house. It spotted me and strode away in the other direction, but strayed to munch bugs in the long grass on the side, so I was quick enough to get a selection of shots before it wandered off out of sight into the overgrown pumpkin patch that used to be my vegetable patch until I planted pumpkin in it!

MYNA BIRD

March 18th 2009 16:08
I had better luck getting shots of the myna bird. He was munching a scrap that next door had thrown on our carport roof - a usual event when there are seagulls or magpies around and she has scraps.

DOVES

The two photos of the courting turtle doves did not come out as well as I had hoped.

However, you might just be able to make out that these doves are making out

Early March

March 12th 2009 15:35
The magpies are back - with a new 'Squeak' (name offered to all new born magpies that make a squeaking noise as their begging efforts for cheese portions.) Once again, we have a large-sized gray fluff-feathered belly owning youngster to fill with calcium!

Due to the heat of summer, my camera is situated in the study rather than bedroom, so photographs are less easily obtained. However, I have taken some video footage that I hope to load to U-tube and then provide a link for shortly. (Having dial-up, I am afraid I will have to ask you to be patient and allow me to wait until I am not downloading research for paid articles or Buddhism classes!) I also got some more heron shots and a few of the turtle doves and myna birds on the camera, taken yesterday that are likely to appear next week

Pigeonalia 4

March 11th 2009 01:18

The pigeons have been rather scarce lately. For about a week, they barely came to our yard at all. Baby1 sleeps overnight above my son's bedroom window still, but flies away after breakfast. Dusty and his Speckley visit soon after for seed leftovers, but vanish once fed. The rest of the mob carelessly flew in for a feed only at random…

Recently…

March 9th 2009 01:30
My son spotted a butcherbird in our back yard - unfortunately I was telephoning England a the time, so unable to grab my camera to take a shot. We have not seen one around for several months, so I guess the seasons are turning once again.

The baby magpie, Squeak, has not been round squeaking for cheese lately - a sure sign that he has grown up

Pigeonalia 3

Over the past week or so, I have encountered one of those mega-huge chunks of difficulty that’s somewhat drained me physically. I also ran into a shock that knocked me out of myself altogether. The pigeons have reacted to this…

They can sense that there is something different - that I no longer flow love out from my heart toward them along with their seed as I have been in shock. This has made most of them stop coming to visit - despite the presence of the seed

Pigeonalia: 2

March 4th 2009 15:33
I have recently been using pigeon photographs as a form of art. Having daily close encounters with the species, it is not hard for me to extract several samples to illustrate possible emotions and gestures from my more than 1000 pigeon photos. (Oops! How did I ever managed to take so many…?)

How the dinner goes

March 3rd 2009 00:39
Initially, as I approach the window near to seed-feed time in the early afternoon, this is the sort of show the pigeons are putting on for me.
