Yard Bird Update 54 - starlings

The most populous baby bird in the yard this year has so far been the sparrow, but coming in a close second is the starling. There have been at least 2 baby starlings in the yard every day for two months until recently. Whilst there are still one or two sightings, it has now been around a week since I have spotted some daily.

The following sextuplet of pictures captures one baby starling’s antics upon the tree outside my bedroom window one day in May.

Yard Bird Update 53

Today I have a couple more baby blackbird photos to share with you. Yet again, they were taken of birds sitting in the tree outside my bedroom window.

I enjoy the baby bird season, as for a while they are not timid but quite tame - though not as much as Aussie birds! At first, their reaction to spotting me is one of curiosity - not fear. They tilt their heads and stare, as if wondering what this great lump of multicolored cloth is…

Alas, in the UK, birds soon learn to run away and fear humans - even those of us who feed and love them. There are very few exceptions - although there are a pair of doves who will sit in the tree and let me walk underneath without flying away sometimes.

Yard Bird Update 52

Awwwwwwww! Are this pair of youngsters cute or not!!!

The baby blackbird and baby sparrow are among many baby birds that use the tree outside my window as a nursery. The parents leave them in the safety of the branches and go off to forage for food - or pick from the bird table below - and feed their young right outside my window. (Who needs to watch nature documentaries on TV with this going on right outside!!)

Later on I got a couple of shots of the parent blackbird and what I assume is an older sibling - as male blackbirds are not supposed to tolerate one another, yet these two seem to be at home in the same tree.

Yard Bird Update 51

Today I am going to share the first of my May photos - a few shots taken of a baby blackbird sitting in the tree outside my window. Firstly, looking down - and then, looking up…

I then took a clearer but further away shot that includes a lot of tree behind the bird.

Unfortunately, what would have been my best picture was spoiled because the bird moved just at the wrong moment and caused a blur! Either that or I set the zoom too far - I know on one occasion when photographing the bird out my window it moved at the wrong moment - and assume this is it -but I do take SO many pictures…

Back to pigeon photos! Starting with a relaxed dozing pigeon, sitting in the tree outside my window.

He is definitely awake and alert in the next shot.

Settling down for another zzz perhaps in the third….

Oooh! Lots of babies!

Taking a break from my photography for a writing, allow me to share the pleasure of lunchtime…

I entered the kitchen in order to toast a cheese and garlic sandwich for my father’s second lunch around 1pm. As I entered the room, I spotted a bird sitting on the upper window pane. (The window was at an angle as it was open.) To my delight it stared in at me, curiously - before flutter-flying to the ground below - a baby blackbird
