I have just a few more blue-tit photos to share before ending my June supply of pictures. Whilst the blue-tits are still around, they are not as regular at the current time. I still spot one or two bouncing about the tree biting bugs - or hanging on the peanut feeder, but I think the rabid hunt for food for youngsters is closing down for the season.

I recall last winter that blue-tits were frequent visitors to the peanut holder, so I expect to see my friends again when it turns colder. Maybe some of them will recall I pop a few nibblies on the sill from time to time!

Yard Bird Update 66

I have several photos to share, still from June. Today I would like to share some pikctures I took of a starling that decided to investigate my window...

He just flew up there and sat on it as if it were a perch presented just for starlings to rest upon!

I thought it rather amusing watching him - and was pleased that he did not fly away before I got my camera out of its case and snapped a trio of shots.

Finishing off my penultimate June 2011 photo-sharing, I have one picture of a baby blackbird to share -

Yard Bird Update 65 & young picture

First, a photo of myself at an exceedingly young age - taken more than 40 years ago - feeding the ducks at Swanbourne Lake in Arundel.

My other photos this time are not very good. A photo of a wood pigeon and three of a magpie.

The wood pigeon decided to turn its back on the camera - and the magpies would not come along the branches, resulting in more foliage than bird in the shots.

FInally, if you take a look at the Missing Pigeon entry, you will find a new lost pigeon. ADoes anyone know who lost this feathered friend?

Yard Bird Update 64

Today I have a couple of photographs of a young dove resting in the bird table. The little fellow seems to have eaten so much he got too tired to fly away until resting, perhaps...

He looks a bit bedraggled, so is possibly in shock or maybe almost got eaten by a cat or sparrowhawk, even. Whatever his reason, he was welcome to rest in the bird table if he pleased

I have some more jackdaw photos to share today. As usual, they were taken as the birds occupied themselves in the tree outside my bedroom window. These pictures were taken in June 2011, and although we hear and see jackdaws nearly every day, they do not come into the tree as often as the smaller birds.

Yard Bird Update 62

Today, I have a few more pictures to share of a baby blue-tit. Once again, it decided to hop about in the tree outside my bedroom window, allowing me ample opportunity to shoot some shots.

These birds have been active in the tree for several weeks, on and off, across the local breeding season. Just like with the wood pigeons, sparrows, starlings, and doves - blue-tits seem to use the tree as a nursery to park their young whilst finding food for them - then the young use it as an experience of hunting their own food
