Before sharing a bunch of beautiful wood pigeon piccies -of which I am sure you have already seen plenty if you are a regular reader - I have two lovely shots of a baby bird finding the late summer heat a little too much. I felt so sad that I could not take away it's heat and let it find comfort...

& now, onto some MORE wood pigeon pics...

and let me close today with this 'somewhat halloweeeny' mis-shot....

Yard Bird Update 72

As promised, I have some preening magpie pictures to share today. This is a young magpie sitting in the tree outside my bedroom window, preening.

Whilst on the subject of magpies, I have a few more pictures to share...

The two above are of the same young magpie. The two below are taken of an adult magpie - possibly the young bird's parent.

Finally, whilst still on the subject of British magpies - here is a shot taken recently of a curious magpie who wanted to observe me as much as I did him.

Ahhhhhh, who needs TV when they have a tree like this out their window!

Yard Bird Update 71

Today I want to share some pictures I took during summer of baby wood pigeons in the tree outside my window. This time they have a theme in common - the baby pigeons are preening. I think they looks so sweet and fluffy!

I have actually got a few more preening photos to share when I next post - but not of wood pigeons - magpies! Actually, a baby magpie landed on the tree several times over the past few months - and was not as shy as its parent. It sat and stared in at me, preened and even sat on the ledge above my window - as this shot of its tail proves.

Yard Bird Update 70

Today I am sharing five photographs of a parent and child wood pigeon during the feeding process. Whilst the videos I have also taken show the entire process, these photos at least show some of the action...

I consider myself quite lucky to live in a room with a tree right outside during summertime - I get to see a lot of fledglings being fed.

Yard Bird Update 69

The baby blackbirds seemed to enjoy hanging out in my vegetable plot. Overgrown that it was, it seemed to be bugful and enjoyable to these youngsters. On one day, I spotted a pair playing near what were potatoes before comfrey and weeds popped up around them.

Only a day or two later, the baby blackbirds were back!

Yard Bird Update 68 and a contest

Today, I am starting to share my photographs from July & August. The latter month did not result in many photographs, and therefore I put the two together. I got a couple of decent dove photos - and a disaster.

Firstly, I took a snap of one of my new friends - a young dove - preening. (Munch, munc,h munch!!) If only it was as simple for us humans to make ourselves look good, eh? Just bite and pull amnd we are all done
