A pair of pies.

Yesterday, I was just about to lay down for a rest after feeding the pigeons my leftover lentils and their seeds, when I heard a pair of magpies descend. Unfortunately, I have recently turned vegan and no longer buy cheese…
I felt so sad that I had no treats for them, as I had not baked any bread either until later that night. They both stepped up on the doorstep and stuck their beaks inside looking - they made sure I had seen them.
As I have always given them cheese before, they seemed somewhat puzzled and I felt awful. In the end they decided that maybe singing me a song might produce the tasty yellow salty calcium supply for them - but alas, I did not have any to give to them, despite enjoying their song.
Finally, they contented themselves by nibbling a few sunflower seeds, then flying away. Later on, I asked my son out to buy a block of cheese as he was headed for the shop….
