Another pigeon update

Smokey flew straight to the windowsill as I drew aside the curtains and peered out over the back yards. Closening towards me, he tried to nibble my nose, but only hit the glass.
We appear to have a new pigeon. It is a combination of white and gray. I have only seen it the once, though. It appeared with the Speckley tribe a couple of days ago. The one I call Dusty seems to be staying with the Speckleys and has come down to eat several times this week. Dusty has gray-brown wings, brown chest, and white underbelly. It also has a fat beak and sad eyes.
Smokey…? He has spent the night with us on two or three occasions this past week. (What has become of Spotty, his wife? He definitely seems to be abandoning her in preference of food and his home-flock!) Smokey's foot is in a terrible condition.
On one occasion I managed to free one toe for him, using my nail clippers. This did not cut the thread very well, so on several other occasions I have tried to snip the cotton off from his foot with scissors. Being careful not to cut Smokey means I did not get much opportunity to remove the cotton. I managed to free a second toe, but the two toes still caught have blistered up around the cotton, and I can help no more. The nearest vet is over 40 minutes away from our home, even if I could bear to trap him in a cardboard box or afford to take him.
We now have another sick pigeon! Bawwab was standing on the windowsill, leaning against the window most of yesterday. She didn't eat a thing. With worried husband shielding her from other curious feathered friends, she then stood on the ground, in the evening. It was a very windy night, so I managed to get her inside a box and smuggle her indoors. She didn’t want to stay in the box, though, and flew to her favored inside perching place on the curtain rail where she spent the night.
