Baby doves

Recently, we have had an outbreak of baby doves. It is very interesting to me to watch their progress. They start out with soft brown feathers and gradually their spotted neckpieces appear, one or two spots at a time.
Most of them start out shyly. They first sight me and stand rock solid - fixing their eyes upon me, necks scrunched up in dread. Once they are aware that I mostly move slowly, provide seed and water, and love them, they start to be overcome by hunger and risk it to join in with those huge pigeons and their fellow doves to take part in the feasting. A few will leap away a few yards in fear or fly off to a nearby branch, but mostly they return once they see the other birds' bravery and the lack of harm in me.
