Baby Lorikeets!
November 20th 2009 14:52
The squeaking noise that we have heard recently has been explained. One or more baby lorikeet is growing up in a nearby tree. Alas not in our yard, but 2 doors down.
I find it lovely to hear the chattering chittering of the lorikeets from early morning to dusk, as they eat from our privet and umbrella tree and pigeon seeds - as well as live 'two-trees down'. It is the sort of background noise I can tune in to and enjoy.
I have yet to see the baby/ies - but have heard the squeaking in conjunction with the chittering, and quietness comes without one or other - and I recall a similar squeaking when a baby lorikeet ate from our tree with its parents once before. I am looking forward to spotting the 'resident' baby/ies!
I will be keeping my camera batteries charged and ready...
