Myna & miner
August 6th 2007 18:00
There is a lot of confusion over the two species.
One, the MYNA is from the starling family, whereas the noisy MINER bird is of the native hummingbird family.
We get several of the former bird in our back yard, where the picture above was taken, but very few of the gray/noisy version. Ours are vocally noisy though! They will fly down to eat up scraps along with the seagulls, and take away feathers and cut grasses for their nests.
We used to encounter a lot of the alternative species where we lived formerly, and when visiting Sydney for the day. These will sit in trees and swoop down to snatch up crumbs.
