Recent moments

There has been a lot of action in the backyard over the Christmas and New Year period. Several moments stand out in my memory as worth mentioning.
Bawwab has taken to standing on the kitchen windowsill, peeping in the window at me. She additionally enjoys perching upon the open back door top or the nearby lamp - especially if it is extremely hot or wet outside. I watched her on the door top yesterday. She was following the movements of a mosquito that had decided to fly about her.
Smokey has taken to visiting us daily again, after a few days rest. He tends to time it to coincide with seed-meals, but if he misses he knows that to look into his eye means I cannot refuse him a handful of seeds. When he spots me coming with a clenched fist, he flies directly to it just knowing it contains food for him. He will sit on my wrist and peck away, dropping very few for the other hopeful members of the home flock. Once he is done, he will generally try to consume a fingernail or fingertip. Whether he thinks my fingers are food, or is just being overly affectionate, I am uncertain.
There was a baby magpie-lark in our entryway two days ago. I was reading, with the door open for fresh air - and for pigeon perching - and spotted it on the doorstep. It had twine entangled about one leg, and was therefore furiously trying to set itself free. I would have helped, but it was not tame enough to let me - flying away when I slowly approached.

Natural Animals
had to have a look in here. Glad I did. I was sitting here yesterday in the middle of Randwick and had a kookaburra flap outside the open window. Startled me a bit.
I have taken to closing the kitchen window, a pair of indian minor birds (sp?) had enjoyed little visits inside the kitchen and kept leaving messages on the stove top.
When I mentioned these occurrences to an equally superstitious friend, she says they are bringing good luck to me, so I hope you also have good luck coming to you soon
