This week

Nearly every week either the season, weather, or wind has changed, bringing different conditions - and birds - into our yard. This past week, we have seen the white-faced heron visit on multiple occasions. The rainy days brought the doves to shelter on the poinsettia tree, where they have a favored branch to perch upon. For some reason, they like to line up 3-4 in a row on the dead branch. Therefore, when pruning it last year, I left the dead branch in situ - instead of removing it.
Ravens have been cawing about a lot lately, also. Although I have not seen any in the hard this week, I have seen them fly over several times and have not spent a single day without hearing them numerous times in the park across the street. I was walking home from an appointment in the city yesterday, and spotted a brave magpie grumpily swooping down at a pair of ravens that dared enter its territory. I know that magpies do not get along too well with ravens though, as our original family of pies moved 2 blocks away when the ravens first moved into the park across the street.
