WET WEATHER
October 10th 2008 20:00
Last week it was either raining, thundery, or extremely cloudy and unsettled. Consequently I spent much time off the computer. It is not insured, and as I rely upon it to earn some of my income I need to ensure that the storms do not damage either the computer or the internet connection.
Despite standing at my windowsill and looking out, there were not very many birds worth taking photographs of. They were mostly the regular gang and definitely not showing their best image. Most were soggy with dirty tails and wet feathers. My compassion flowed, but my camera did very little work.
I did notice a few changes worth mentioning in the interlude before taking some photos again, though. Firstly, the magpies have not been coming so often again. I assume the hatchlings are now able to leave the nest and do not need a constant supply of cheese amidst their diet. Secondly, the red-whiskered bulbuls are back, along with the black-faced cuckoo-shrikes. I have spotted both birds in our back yard several times over the past week.
I did take a photo of one bulbul as he pecked at some homemade wholemeal bread on the lawn. It was the first time I got close enough to get a good picture - IF the dim weather conditions allow it to come out properly, (I do not use flash when capturing birds for their own benefit.) I shall share this photo as soon as I load the latest snaps onto the computer - IF it came out as anything more than a blur!
