Wood pigeons and their young 1
July 15th 2010 06:59
My next selection of pictures brings us to the baby birds that have been abundant in our yards over the past 3-4 months. A beautiful wood pigeon was born in the tree outside my bedroom window and shared some precious days and times before leaving to find a new home for the future….
The wood pigeon is also known as the ring dove in England. It is a fairly large bird, of 16 inches, which equates to 41cm. Larger than the show pigeon and city pigeon, this bird is resident year round in England.
Wood pigeons can be recognized by their white neck band and small white stripe on the wing - although one of our local bunch does not have a white bar on its wing - this is how I can tell WP apart from the other wood pigeons!
