Wood pigeons and their young 2
July 19th 2010 17:06
Wood pigeons feast upon seeds mainly - but also consume green shoots, acorns, grain, nuts, caterpillars, slugs, berries, and, when visiting bird tables, homemade bread!
The usual habitat of this species is woodland, but it has also adapted to gardens, which they currently frequent as often as the woods. Their nests are built in trees or bushes and are made of sticks. Between April and August wood pigeons tend to lay 2 white eggs at a time. It is also possible for earlier or later broods to emerge dependant upon local circumstances.
Here are two photos of the parent with their child - so you can see the difference between adult and young in the species.
