Yard Bird Update 1
June 10th 2010 13:41
I saw the goldfinch again today, whilst washing up. I could have got a super photo - except I had wet gloves on and no camera handy. I did not see them for some days, so had thought they might have moved on since the babies hatched.
WP has found a mate, after spending the past 5.5 months aloof and beak in air. I spotted the newbie pigeon at the bird table with him this afternoon.
The baby blackbirds are beginning to change color and grow longer tails. The baby starlings are easier to identify without confusing them and the blackbird babies now. Before, it has been hard unless one of each is around. The starlings have protruding eyes and thinner bodies, but it is hard to tell for sure without another bird to view them against.
Unfortunately my dad’s yard is a hangout spot for several cats. There have been cats in and out of the yard for most of the morning - hence not as many bird sightings as usual today.
