Yard Bird Update 59
August 17th 2011 17:19
If you are wondering what has been going on in the yard lately, quite a lot! Out front, I spotted familiar pigeon behaviour in the tree between our house and next door. One pigeon sitting in the tree and a second going away and returning with an assortment of twigs. Yes, we have a nest! There is currently one adult pigeon sitting and chattering 'pigeon coos' on the nest....
In the back yard, we still have several young and baby birds. It seems that 2011 is a good year for baby birds in dad's yard, as we definitely did not have this many last year.
Today, I spotted a curious baby starling staring down whilst a young blackbird pecked about below the bird table on the grass - or should I say in the grass, as I really need to cut it. The young blackbird often sits on the tubular post I inserted to mark the start of my vegetable patch, close to the kitchen window, and looks in at me while I cook.
We still have a few baby sparrows - there was a parent and 2-3 young feeding from my windowsill/the tree this lunch hour. One of the babies has the idea that the windowsill is where the food is - and flew over with its parent, whilst the other two sat in the tree squeaking - cute!!
