Yard Bird Update 82
December 6th 2011 17:36
Regular readers may be surprised to hear that I have no pigeon photos to share with you today! This time, I have a pair of photographs of an English magpie instead.
From time to time we have magpies visit the garden, but not on a regular basis. Recently, there has been a magpie visitor most days however. I beleive it is mostly the rotting apples on the ground under the tree that bring it along, but as you can see in these photos, it also likes to tuck into the food especially put out for the birds.
Mostly, the magpie is biting at pieces of apple left rotting on the apple tree at the end of the yard. These ran out a week or so ago, since which the new visitor has been seen pecking at rotting apples on the ground below instead. It very rarely comes close enough to snap - although when perched on the tree I can sometimes get a photograph with lots of branches in the way.
